Exciting news from Wabash! A young man named Zachariah Smith, who just graduated from Wabash High School in 2021, has made it to the top five on American Idol! He wowed the judges with his rendition of “Ironic” by Alanis Morissette and a duet of Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” with another contestant, Haven Madison.
What makes Zachariah’s journey even more special is that two of the biggest names in music, Morissette and Sheeran, were guest judges on the show when he performed. Meanwhile, judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie were in England performing in honor of the coronation of King Charles III.
Next up for Zachariah and the other remaining contestants is a Disney-themed episode, airing on Sunday, May 14th. America will vote for the top three performers who will then move on to the finale on Sunday, May 21st. If Zachariah makes it to the top three, he will get to perform in his hometown of Wabash, which is sure to be an incredible moment for him and his community.
